During the 1920's, Ralph Perkins started a business that was one day to become Winding Creek Nursery, Inc. He sold vegetables and flowers and vegetable bedding plants on his truck farm located on Baseline Road in Bristol. In March of 1957, he and his family moved to Millbrook, our present location, and his sons, Bill and Fred, and daughter, Betty, soon joined the business. Nursery stock was planted in the fields and the selling of vegetable and flower bedding plants continued.

Winding Creek has continued to expand over the years, not only in the terms of acreage, but in types and varieties of trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, and vegetable plants. We have 160 acres in which we have nursery stock growing. Although much of the stock is grown on the premises, Winding Creek also ships in some of the special varieties that are native to Northern Illinois.

We pride ourselves in our expert staff. They are here to give our customers personalized assistance in the selection of nursery stock. They can also answer questions the customers might have concerning landscaping and gardening. One of our staff is an Illinois Certified Nurseryman. She has gone through schooling and has the necessary experience to be able to help assist all of our customer's needs.
Along with the nursery stock, we carry Fertilome Lawn and Garden Supplies, Winding Creek's own special blends of grass seed and all you need to grow that perfect garden. Winding Creek's special blend of bird seed is available along with bird houses and feeders. Our gift shop has decor for both the home and garden. We have a large selection of framed prints, wind chimes, candles, stepping stones, garden flags and seasonal gift items. Gift certificates are also available.
